Faldo: Me equivoqué. Es el 98%
Nick Faldo explica por qué no se trata de saber de golf, sino de probar y ver qué es lo que gusta y qué es lo que no. Afirma que el 98% de los aficionados usan palos no adecuados a su swing.
Hace ya diez años, cuando comenzamos con OneUpGOLF, tomamos como bandera la frase de Nick Faldo acerca de la escasa cantidad de golfistas que no usan palos adecuados. Años más tarde, en una nota periodística, Faldo se rectifica:
Una vez hice una afirmación tonta: “Que el 90% de los golfistas aficionados usan palos que no son para su swing”. En realidad me equivoqué: es el 98%. Una gran cantidad de gente dice que no puede percibir las diferencias entre palos pero eso no es cierto y lo he verificado. Yo le digo a la gente que vaya y pruebe y me dicen: “no puedo porque no sé mucho de palos”. Y yo les digo que vayan y prueben y vean qué les gusta y qué no les gusta. Es una obligación hacerlo para poder mejorar.

- With all of that in mind, how you recommend mid- and high-handicap golfers go about finding the right clubs?
I once made a foolish statement that about 90 percent of the golfers out there play with clubs that don't match their swing. I'd like to change that to about 98 percent.
A lot of people say that they can't feel the difference from one club to another, but I've proven that to be wrong.
I tell people that you've got to go out and try it. Folks tell me all the time, "I can't because I don't know that much about golf." It doesn't matter — you can pick two clubs, swing them, and feel the difference. You go, "I like that, but I don't like that." That's simply what you do. I think that is an absolute must.
